Principal Consultant and Lead Instructor
Mark A. Haerr is an educator and financial management practitioner with extensive experience teaching and advising professionals across business, nonprofit, and government sectors. He has taught finance, accounting, and investment courses for Southern Methodist University, the University of Dallas, and the University of North Texas’ Professional Development Institute.
His instruction is known for breaking down complex topics into clear, practical concepts accessible to learners with diverse backgrounds. He has earned consistent recognition for excellence in teaching, including commendation from the dean of the University of Dallas Graduate School of Management.
Mark currently serves as Chief Financial Officer of a rapidly growing nonprofit and is President and Principal Consultant of AMT Financial Consultants, Inc., where he provides financial analysis, business valuation, CFO support, and professional development programs. His earlier consulting experience includes roles with Deloitte Consulting and Booz Allen Hamilton, supporting strategic planning, financial management, and investment analysis for corporate and federal clients.
He also held senior leadership roles at Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), including Assistant Vice President for Budget, Financial Planning and Revenue Administration and Assistant Vice President for Administrative Operations and Compliance. In these roles, he led multimillion‑dollar budgets, managed employee and retiree benefit programs, oversaw vendor and contract administration, and implemented innovative health and wellness initiatives that delivered significant cost savings.
Mark began his career as an aeronautical engineer and systems analyst with McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) and later served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Management and Budget and Performance Improvement Officer at the U.S. Department of Transportation.
He holds an MBA in Finance from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois. He is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and Certified Financial Manager (CFM) and has held additional certifications in valuation, government financial management, and resource management. He currently serves as Treasurer on the Board of Directors of the Dallas‑Fort Worth Business Group on Health.
